Chef Tee's Story

I am passionate about helping you on your life’s journey. I’ve been where you’ve been. I know what it’s like and I want to help you. Here is who I am!

Chef Tee (Terrelyn Wallace):

“Food doesn’t have any prejudice. If you put up a good plate and it tastes good, someone wants to know who made that”.

Greetings! My name is Terrelyn Wallace A.K.A. Chef Tee.  My journey in the foodservice industry traces back to my earliest days as a dishwasher, a role I still regards as crucial in the kitchen. Raised by my grandparents in Birmingham, Alabama, my life took a significant turn when I relocated to Lansing, Michigan during my formative years. Faced with adversity including homelessness, strained family dynamics, and battling addiction, I navigated through these challenges while holding down multiple jobs, although falling into the grip of substance abuse and even engaging in selling illegal substances.

Following a conviction, I found myself serving time in prison, where I found solace and purpose in enrolling in a culinary program led by Chef Jimmy Hill. Upon release, I found guidance and mentorship from Chef Paul O’Shea, propelling me towards growth and success.

I fulfilled a pledge made during my journey towards recovery – to assist others in finding their own path to transformation. Drawing from the wisdom imparted by my mentor, Chef Hill, he provided a guiding light for those ready to embrace their potential and make their own turnaround.  This is when The Turn Around Place (TAP) was born.

“You’re going to hear “no” a lot, but when you hear “yes”, you better take full advantage.”
